After Pierce College began receiving a higher number of international students than could be housed in the outer community, they decided to build its first-ever dorm. How to construct one on a community college's budget was a critical issue. Instead of creating a ground-up custom dorm, the college bought a nearby nursing home, which, much like its past residents, had aged out of its golden years. Adapting this building from a retirement community to a community-college crowd was a unique challenge for us. A full interior remodel, a landscaping upgrade, and new parking makes this old building feel modern. It is now home to a group of young people starting a new page in their life.
