Originally built in the 1940’s, this single-family residence was designed in a traditional manner with clearly defined rooms separated by full height walls. The caretakers were having difficulty using this space effectively as an adult family home where they’re regularly mobilizing residents and need clear sight lines at all times. Our goal was to better connect the kitchen with the existing dining and living room space. We did that by relocating the kitchen and designing a large island to maintain much needed counter space. In addition, we designed a fully accessible deck so that all residents can easily enjoy the beautiful views of Puget Sound and Fox Island.
